History

In 1980 Members of the Greenvale Fire Brigade (CFA) recognized the need for a larger capacity fire fighting appliance.

Greenvale is a area north of Melbourne near the Melbourne Air Port.

The Brigade managed to secure a purpose built off-road truck chassis with very high specification.

Starting with the chassis rails, the build commenced in the De Luca Brothers Transport Workshop.

The whole vehicle was built and designed by volunteers of the Greenvale Fire Brigade.

After many painstaking hours and determination the truck was completed in Ten Years.

The design and innovations that were implemented at the time are only now being used in the 'fire fighting' appliances of today.

$10,000 Donation For CFA Unit

A $10,000 donation from Cleanaway will allow the Greenvale CFA unit to complete work on a large multipurpose fire fighting tender to be put into use before the end of this year.

At a funstion held at the Cleanaway plant in Tullamarine recently Mr Graeme Lawrence, Cleanaway Victoria Manager for Treatment and Disposal and Mr Bernard Butler, Victorian Manager of the Industrial Division, presented a power steering unit and a cheque for the purchase of ancillary equipment, to Mr Brendan Blake, Captain of the Greenvale CFA.

Mr Blake said that Cleanaway's generous gift, Plus the voluntary labour supplied by CFA members, would enable the vehicle to be in operation by next summer.

Cleanaway had previously donated a cabin chassis to the brigade and members had already put in over 2000 man-hours to make the tender an efficient fire fighting unit.

My Lawrence said his company was full appreciative of the important role played by the Greenvale CFA.
