After almost a decade of campaigning and fundraising, the Australian Road Transport and Heritage Centre has opened its doors in Gundagai.

The museum is dedicated to the preservation and display of vehicles that were instrumental in developing Australia's transport industry.

Seventy six trucks took part in the 2016 Sylvia’s Gap Road Run during a weekend of activities which raised about $30,000 for the proposed Australian Road Transport Heritage Centre. Tamara Whitsed chats to Jim Morton as she travels in his 1963 J3 Bedford.

Taking place over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend, the second Sylvia’s Gap Road Run saw 76 trucks travel the picturesque section of the old Hume Highway as part of a fundraising activity for the Australian Road Transport Heritage Centre (ARTHC)..

Buoyed by the success of recent fundraising activities, the Australian Road Transport Heritage Centre (ARTHC) plans to open a truck museum in a temporary home at Gundagai, New South Wales, this month.

ARTHC Chairperson Kerry Campbell and his team are assembling a collection of historic trucks and exhibits in a shed at the corner of Tor Street and Jack Moses Avenue, Gundagai.

A road run over Sylvia’s Gap raised funds for the proposed Gundagai truck museum and rekindled memories of old Highway 31.

Plans to build a truck museum at Gundagai, New South Wales, were boosted by a dinner and road run which raised over $15,000 for the Australian Road Transport Heritage Centre (ARTHC) on June 6 and 7. .........

The highlight of the fund-raising weekend was the Sylvia’s Gap Road Run along a section of the old Hume Highway which was bypassed in 1983. The road is now on private property and inaccessible to the general public, but landowners opened their gates for the road run. .......
